How does it work?

The Winter Warrior Challenge is designed to start the year off on a happy and healthy note by getting us up and off the couch and into fresh air. Each day in the month of January, run (or walk) at least one mile OUTSIDE, and track your mileage through our Winter Warrior Challenge website. You are responsible for knowing the mileage that you’ve run - if you don’t have a GPS running watch, check out free online resources like the Google Pedometer or MapMyRun

How do I log my runs?

Click the "Submit a Run/Walk" button on the homepage of to be brought to the submission form. Note this will go live on January 1st, 2022.​

When submitting miles, there are six fields to fill in:

Email Address - This is the email address that will receive the email receipt for your entry. If you don't receive one, make sure to check your spam folder (those pesky emails sneak into there every once in a while). That email receipt will have a button at the top called "Edit Responses." You can click there to edit your entry at any point. So if you submitted the wrong date, wrong bib number, wrong mileage...etc, just hit Edit Responses, make the change and resubmit. This will replace your previous submission, not double it. You will get an email for every entry.

Bib # - Bib numbers can be found HERE. Everyone has their own bib #, so make sure you are entering yours once you receive it. The Bib Assignments page is updated every 24 hours until registration closes. If you just signed up, please give it a full 24 hours to check for your bib number on this page. You will receive it immediately in your confirmation email if you signed up after 12/30.  

Enter the Date of Your Run/Walk - This is the date of your activity with two fields. The first field is Month (Enter 1) and the second field is Day (Enter the day of the month). So if you are entering miles for 1/3 you will enter 1 in the MM field and 3 in the DD field. Other dates such as a birthday entered will result in dropping off the leaderboard. If you've already done this, take a look at how to edit responses above. 

First Name - We like to know who you are =)

Last Name - Ditto

Mileage - Enter the miles run/walked for that activity.

I don't see my name on the leaderboard

Hit refresh a second time when you navigate to the leaderboards. Sometimes Google likes to load only a certain number of entries. Hitting refresh a second time will load the full list. Once the full list is loaded, you'll be able to find your name.

I just logged my run, but all the miles aren't reflected on the leaderboard . Why is that? Should I resubmit?

Leaderboards this year are not live. They are updated daily in the evenings beginning the evening of January 3rd. Do not resubmit any mileage until at least 48 hours after your initial submission. Resubmitting mileage will result in duplicate entries.

I entered the wrong Bib #, Mileage, Date...etc. What do I do?

No worries! You're able to edit your entries on your own:

1) Find the email receipt for the entry you need to edit (check your spam folder if you don't see one).

2) Click "Edit Responses"

3) Make the change needed. 

4) Click "Submit" at the bottom of the form

What if I miss a day?

The challenge dictates that you run or walk outside every day in January. Unfortunately, if you miss a day, you’re OUT! So get on out there! 

What if I run, but forget to post my miles?

You have four days to post mileage for a given run. You MUST log your mileage in this window – if you forget and miss the four day deadline, you are OUT. Unfortunately there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy. Do whatever you need to do to remember to log your runs! Set an alert on your phone, have a friend remind you, write on your hand...because if you forget to do so, you're out of the challenge. 

I ran/walked twice in one day; do I submit one total entry or multiple entries?

The answer is that you can do either. For example, if you run 6 miles in the morning and 3 miles at night, you can enter one 9 mile entry or two individual entries at 6 and 3 miles. Your category status is based on average daily mileage, so 9 is what would be measured for that particular day in this example.

Where do I get my merchandise?

When registering, you will be prompted or enticed with some of the nicest gear there is! We will be shipping everything to your address. If you'd like to make a purchase please make sure to add the merchandise to your cart during registration. If you forget your Winter Warrior gear, or see something else you like, merchandise will open up for sale after the Challenge has started on January 5th. You'll be sent a link to notify you via email.

I’m having trouble logging my miles. What do I do?

How do I sign up to be on a team?

When you go to the registration page, you’ll be able to create or join a team simply by entering the name of the team you'd like to join or start.

Can I change teams once I’m signed up, or add myself to a team?

You have the option to switch teams if you'd like, but this must be done before the challenge begins on January 1st. 


I can’t find my name in the leaderboard. Why is that?

YETI TIP: On a desktop version of the website hit CTRL+F or on a Mac Command+F and search by last name. Then if nothing is found check to make sure you’ve submitted miles for every day in January. Why don’t I see Gold, Silver, or Bronze mileage levels during registration?

You don’t need to commit to a daily mileage goal when you sign up – the system will auto-assign your level based on the runs that you submit in January. These categories are based on average mileage per day, which is different than previous years.

For instance, if you run 1 mile for the first day and then 5 miles for the second day you will have averaged 3 miles. This will place you in the Silver category for those two days.

Can I still order some more Winter Warrior merchandise?

You absolutely can! If you forget your Winter Warrior gear, or see something else you like, merchandise will open up for sale after the Challenge has started on January 5th. You'll be sent a link to notify you via email.
